ICAI allows 15 minutes question paper reading time before exam starts [From 1:45pm to 2pm].

Some students find reading time frustrating. They just want to start writing. Whereas some use it in a wrong ways which makes the process more difficult. But a planned and systematic approach to reading time will help you to tackle the exam paper more efficiently and effectively – giving you a significant bonus if you use it well.

Here are our few tips on how you can plan your reading time to reap out maximum benefits out of it.

Read the instructions- Ensure you are clear about the structure and requirements of the paper. Make sure you check how many sections are there and which questions you need to answer.

Read through the paper- Devote you first 5 minutes of the reading time to have a bird's eye view of the paper and make note of the chapters or topics to which the questions belong.

Do Not Stuck/Spend time on reading a Particular Question- As you go through the paper, do not make the mistake to spend the 15 minutes on 1 question. Do not think of answers in those 15 minutes.

Plan your approach- After reading the whole paper, you can choose the question that you’re going to answer in the beginning and question which are going to leave as per choice given in the paper. You must start by answering the question that you’re most confident about.

Start doing computations or noting down points for the 1st question- Now as you have selected the question you will attempt in the beginning (prefer question of 5-10 marks & not 15-20 marks), read the question thoroughly and start doing computations which are relevant to answer the question so that you can start writing right away as you get answer sheet without wasting any time.

Pause and reflect- Take a moment to pause and relax. Breathe deeply. Give yourself confidence that you have maximized your use of reading time and are now ready to start your responses.
